Man is a social being, to thrive, he must latch on to the constructs of social interaction. But deep within, we yearn for the safety of seclusion, away from the noise and clutter that the world brings into our doorstep. Take away our social structure and we become vulnerable to change. Take it a little further and reality soon blurs to pitch black. Further and further away, the walls will close upon us, until we are left tending blind into the void, helpless and uncertain.

As the pandemic tries to gnaw through the foothold of society, the world, in response, slows to a halt. Forced into isolation. We attempt to turn our backs to the world, as it too, shuts its curtain upon us. We try to cope and shelter under the cold solitary sheets and take a fleeting comfort that finally, we are alone. But at what cost? Should we let society throw itself into the pit and save ourselves from its woes? Or should we join the fray and fulfill our social oaths?

This 6 min video installation shows a footage of the artist meditating overlayed with fragments of the past and the present through archive footages and sound to illustrate depiction of choices, of what if’s and why’s whether you choose to wake up to reality or welcome back sleeps’ warm embrace. It’s our wakeup call from such crippling slumber. As we struggle to get back to our cloudy dreams, reality will often pull us back out, awake from the quiet refuge that we have so dearly enjoyed.
